The 2016 Peak Performer of the Year award winners have finally been announced. The honors were given at Destination Colorado’s Annual Meeting in the beginning of December at EXDO Event Center in Denver.

The awards recognize members for their outstanding leadership and commitment to promoting the meetings and events industry in Colorado.

The Individual of the Year award was given to Ellen Collins, senior manager of Global Group Sales for Vail Resorts Meetings & Events. Collins has been involved with membership meetings, road shows, the Customer Appreciation Event and Front Range Trade Show, and a number of other Destination Colorado events. Serving as a board member since 2011, Collins has been a major part of the growth of the group and its members.

“Ellen is inquisitive, highly creative and very attentive,” says Janie McCullough executive director, Destination Colorado. “She is an outstanding professional role model for both Destination Colorado and the entire meetings industry.”

The Company of the Year award was given to Devil’s Thumb Ranch Resort & Spa. The company has been an active member of Destination Colorado for years, and participates in initiatives like the Front Range Trade Show, membership meetings and various road shows. They even hosted Destination Colorado’s Customer Appreciation Event in September 2016.

“What makes Devil's Thumb special goes far beyond location and venue,” says McCullough. “The property’s team members and staff are exceptional. They are professional and responsive, and they demonstrate teamwork with positive attitudes and smiling faces.”

Colorado experts share how approaches are changing in their corner of the meetings and events world.

Stonebridge Companies, a privately owned, innovative hotel owner, operator and developer headquartered in Denver, has been awarded Marriott International’s Partnership Circle Award. This award is the highest honor granted to Marriott’s franchise partners; it recognizes those that exemplify Marriott’s vision, share a long-term business commitment, embrace brand initiatives, focus on associates to foster and manage an engaged workforce, invest in hotel product and deliver excellent customer service.

In Colorado, we are extremely fortunate to have 13 national and local member organizations affiliated with the meetings and events industry that team up to support two community service initiatives and deliver one annual conference through the Meetings Industry Council of Colorado. We have heard many times that this type of unification is truly unique and no other organization like it exists in the United States.
