Members of the International Special Events Society (ISES) Denver Chapter relaxed and networked in the “safe house” before being divided into five “families” for a Godfather-themed culinary meeting on August 26. The families battled to come up with the perfect crostini topping but only after all weapons were checked at the door of Italian-inspired Baldoria on the Water in Lakewood. An outline of a body on the floor, flickering candles in rock-hewn alcoves and crime tape helped set the stage.

What started as a summer job for Matthew Doubek has turned into more than 20 years of caricatures.
