Beverly Hills sure knows how to celebrate a birthday. The glamorous city turns 100 this year and to commemorate the centennial five of its most luxurious hotels each redecorated one of its suites to evoke an era from the past 100 years. Launched by the Beverly Hills Conference & Visitors Bureau, the initiative is called Suite 100. Members of the press got a glimpse of the glitz, along with appropriately haute bites, as a city trolley took us from hotel to hotel.
DENVER IS ONE OF ONLY A DOZEN U.S. cities that host all four of the big professional sports teams. This translates into a great core of prime venues: the Denver Broncos (football) play at Sports Authority Field at Mile High, Colorado Avalanche (hockey) and Denver Nuggets (basketball) at Pepsi Center, and Colorado Rockies (baseball) at Coors Field.
Earlier this winter, I visited Snowmass to experience some of the many changes that continue to happen in the base village area and to enjoy some amazing powder skiing. On my must-visit list has been seeing the major overhauls at Westin Snowmass and Wildwood Snowmass that were unveiled last ski season.
They say if you want to test the skill of a chef, ask him or her to make an omelet. I’d add if you want to judge the care a kitchen takes in preparing its dishes, order the calamari. At Rare by Drai’s, a swank, sexy new steakhouse and lounge on West Hollywood’s Sunset Strip, the calamari is one of the must humble dishes on the menu. But, at a recent press dinner, I couldn’t stop eating it.
There’s no end in sight for the Centennial State’s burgeoning distillery and microbrewery scene.
There have been several top-to-bottom hotel renovations in Colorado over the last year, and I’ve been getting out and about to see them as time allows. Each summer my family enjoys the Crested Butte to Aspen hike over West Maroon Pass, so it was a perfect chance to experience the St. Regis Aspen, which was classy before but went to ultra sophisticated in a comfortable way. For an outdoor event, the large Fountain Courtyard is hard to beat along with a nicely secluded and renovated outdoor pool and adjoining Mountain Plaza.

Highland Haven Creekside Inn in Evergreen is launching a new campaign called Big Dawgs. Being a dog lover (my black Lab, Sasha, turns three this week), I found the "Where the Big Dawgs Meet" photo to be quite entertaining so inquired about how they managed to capture the shot.
