November not only is a month to gather with family and friends for Thanksgiving, the meetings and events industry in Colorado has several opportunities for face-to-face time to help others and celebrate accomplishments. The Meetings Industry Council of Colorado’s annual Serving Up Hope luncheon on Nov. 5 raised $28,000 for Food Bank of the Rockies, and 26,634 pounds of food donated by MIC’s 13 member organizations. That is an increase of approximately $5,000 and more than 3,600 pounds of food from last year!

I love September and the hint of fall it brings along with the bounty from my garden. While a full-blown explosion of color is getting underway in Colorado’s high country, it’s harvest time galore in gardens planted a little lower in elevation. My tomatoes and peppers are producing at a good clip so it’s salsa-making time, my son and his friend picked a couple backpacks full of apples for apple crisp and apple butter, and what to do with all the cucumbers?
When our state hosts one of the industry’s national conferences, it’s a good thing indeed. Denver rolled out the red carpet for the Professional Convention Management Association 2013 Education Conference held at the Colorado Convention Center on June 24 - 27. Not only do we not have to travel far to participate, it showcases our state and provides amazing networking opportunities.
Nothing is hotter for summer 2013 than nature-inspired gatherings.

Just as we are putting the finishing touches on a feature story about ways groups can tap into Cool Colorado Summers, a notice about Denver Botanic Gardens’ Garden Grapes and Hops garden party on June 7 hits my inbox. Could we maybe just jump to summer right now? March is usually flip flops one minute, ski goggles the next! Warm days, one after another, are sounding pretty good.
