Meet Wendy Ratkin

Wendy Ratkin was recently hired as the director of catering and conference services for The Curtis Hotel in Denver.

1. What are you most looking forward to in your new role as director of catering and conference services?

A Western Slope Food Journey with Sheraton Denver Downtown Chefs

What happens when you meet up with two chefs and the food and beverage director from the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel, Colorado’s largest hotel (1,231 hotel rooms, 82 suites and 133,000 square feet of meeting and event space) on a food journey to find some of the Western Slope’s best growers and food producers? You catch a glimpse of how a large property is dialing into local for groups and leisure travelers and how a food team works together to brainstorm and make buying decisions.

Denver's RiNo Neighborhood Getting Boutique Hotel

Set to open doors in winter 2017, the Ramble Hotel is a design-forward, 50-room boutique hotel that will be situated in Denver’s RiNo neighborhood. The hotel features an theater and bar; flexible meeting space; a small retail outlet; an outdoor courtyard; an independently owned restaurant; and a marquee lobby bar—Death & Co. Denver.

The Crawford Hotel Expands Denver Union Station Program


The Crawford Hotel, located in the historical and recently renovated Denver Union Station, has expanded their tour program of the train station. The tour, previously offered biweekly, will now be offered weekly on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 1 p.m. The tour will feature Denver’s transportation, artwork, shops and restaurants located in the station, along with some of the unique rooms in the hotel.

Two New Hires for Fairmont Austin

Thomas J.W. Voss has just been appointed managing director of the 1,048-room-Fairmont Austin, opening the summer of next year. He will be responsible for overall operations, performance and strategic direction for the newest and largest Fairmont hotel in the U.S.

With more than 35 years of experience in the hospitality industry, Voss has held a number of positions, including executive roles with Starwood Hotels.

New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge Reveals $45 Million Renovation

After more than a year, the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge announced the unveiling of its $45 million transformation, ending a three-phase renovation.

The third phase focused on renovating the 667 guestrooms to mimic the Brooklyn lifestyle, with urban-inspired color pallets, fabrics that emulate the culture and landmarks, and an art piece that zooms in on a piece of a mural that is located in the lobby.

Philly Has Record Year

Just in time for the new year, Center City Philadelphia is right on track to end 2015 with a record hotel occupancy.

Record Hotel Occupancy: 77.4%:

Center City Philadelphia’s hotel occupancy is estimated to hit a record 77.4 percent in up from 75.5 percent in 2014. Visitors to Philadelphia from all segments (leisure, group, business) will have filled a projected 3.1 million rooms—another record.
