Northern Lights travel expert Off the Map Travel has announced eight new “Aurora on the Water” experiences designed to capture the Aurora in a unique way. Running from September 2019 to March 2020, the eight program options feature views everywhere from a luxury yacht or kayak, on top of a frozen lake, looking down over the fjords, or drifting on the Arctic waters. The itineraries for each program can be personalized for the needs and optimal experience of each guest. Below is a snapshot and sample itinerary for each unique experience.

Arctic Bath Spa

Harads, Sweden — Not your usual day spa, the Arctic Bath opens its doors this winter as the world’s first Arctic floating spa. Guests will receive wellness, mindfulness and cleansing treatments combined with the opportunity to experience the Northern Lights from the deck of the floating spa building. For those looking for a full body experience, the cold natural plunge pool offers the perfect opportunity to gaze at the lights as they float in the Bath’s center.

One of the four cornerstones of wellness the Arctic Bath is centered on, Peace of Mind, “comes from balance, participating in activities that bring us joy, interacting with nature, being present and engaged, meditation, and positive thinking, and sensory experiences,” explains Off the Map Marketing Manager, Gwen Tavares.

Opening in February 2020 and priced from $4,964 per guest, this four-day/three-night program includes housing in a floating cabin, daily breakfast and 5-course dinner, a guided Northern Lights hunt, transfers, and spa services. Flights are additional.

Sail Under the Aurora

Tromso, Norway — In the mood for more adventure? Get connected with the Arctic environment on a luxury catamaran while searching for wildlife by day and the Northern Lights by night. This water -based hunt will provide guests the chance to steer the catamaran themselves while improving their navigation skills. In addition, guests will have the chance to catch their own dinner, prepared and cooked by an onboard chef.

Priced from $1,982 per person, this four-day/three-night program includes hotel accommodations for two nights, one night aboard a luxury catamaran, a guided snowshoe hike, fishing, wildlife and Northern Lights experience, cruise and transfers. Flights are additional. .

Sleep Beneath the Stars

Lulea, Sweden — Perfect for your next romantic getaway, guests will experience a serene, uninterrupted view of the Northern Lights while staying at a remote glamping site on the frozen Arctic Sea. A local astrologer will guide guests through a private Northern Lights sky-searching experience, where they will learn about the Aurora and much more.

“The host is passionate, knowledgeable, and sure to leave his guests with lasting memories of a night beneath the stars,” says Tavares.

Priced from $2,454 per person, this exclusive five-night/four-day program includes the Northern Lights and night sky-searching experience, all meals including a private dinner at the two-person Aurora Hideaway restaurant on skis, private snowmobiling and snowshoeing, a stargazing experience, lodge accommodations and sleeping in a yurt on the edge of the frozen Bothnian Sea at the private glamping site. Along The Viking Trail

Lofoten Islands, Norway — Glide through Northern Norway in a comfortable double kayak while searching for the Northern Lights. Accompanied by an experienced guide and photographer, guests will embark on a nighttime adventure to explore local waters and hunt for the Northern Lights.

Designed to accommodate groups of four, this program is priced from $2,479 per person. The four-day itinerary includes Aurora sea kayaking, transfers, accommodation in a secluded luxury lodge, a horseback riding tour along old Viking trails, a snowshoe hike in the mountains and a beachfront sauna under the Arctic skies. Aurora Floating

Rovaniemi, Finland — This relaxing, spiritual experience allows guests to float comfortably in a newly cut hole in the ice while admiring the Northern Lights in the Arctic sky. A dry rescue suit, along with other special clothing, will keep guests warm and comfortable in this one-of-a-kind Aurora floating experience.

Priced from $1,553 per person, a three-day itinerary includes the Aurora floating experience, transfers, a night in an individually carved Ice Suite at the Arctic Snow Hotel, a stay at the Arctic Light Hotel, a husky ride and a polar night reindeer safari. Flights are additional.

Northern Lights Waterfall Photography

Iceland — Take a piece of the Northern Lights with you as you capture their glow in the water of a spectacular waterfall and pool. Guests are joined by award-winning professional photographers for an exclusive Aurora photography master class, where they will learn how to capture the perfect “double shot” over the tumbling water and in the reflection below.

Priced from $2,354 per person, a four-day/three night itinerary includes an exclusive Aurora and water photography adventure, transfers, accommodations in Reykjavik, a visit to the Blue Lagoon, city sightseeing and an exclusive guided photography tour. Flights are additional.

Lights at the Lodge

Narvik, Norway — Reach new heights and experience the Northern Lights in a gondola while overlooking a Norwegian fjord. Guests will rise above the mountains and Narvik while viewing the waters of the local fjord beneath them. The Lights and Lodge venue where guests stay offers a warm, indoor spot to search for the Northern Lights, along with additional outdoor viewing platforms.

Priced from $1,733 per person, a four-day/ three-night itinerary includes the Lights at the Lodge experience, transfers, hotel accommodations, a cultural Sami and reindeer experience, and a guided Northern Lights hunt. Flights are additional.

Volda Floating Lodge

Tromso, Norway — Tucked in a secluded bay near Tromso Island, guests will experience the reflection of the Northern Lights surrounded by mountains. The Scandinavian design of the converted ferry offers a comfortable, modern accommodation for up to 14 guests.

Priced from $2,359 per person based on four people, a four-day/ three-night itinerary includes three nights at the floating home, all meals, a personal hostess on board, dog sledding and a Northern Lights hunt. Flights are additional.
